The movies I mentioned at the end of my previous post have arrived so I’m hoping to watch them this weekend. (That’s assuming I can stop myself from watching the various seasons of Seinfeld, which I’ve been doing for the last week or so.)
Tonight or tomorrow night, I’m planning on taking in the 1938 W.S. Van Dyke movie, Marie Antoinette starring Norma Shearer. If I’m really energetic I may even get around to scribbling out some thoughts about the film. But I’ve been doing a poor job of that recently so I’m not making any promises.
And I may even get around to watching Mogambo (1953), which also arrived. I’m expecting that one to be not so much good as interesting with it’s combination of Ava Gardner and a somewhat long-in-the-tooth Clark Gable. (It’s a remake of 1932’s Red Dust which starred a much younger Clark Gable and Jean Harlow.)
But first on my list is Marie Antoinette. We’ll see how that goes.
(By the way, I’m repeating myself but … Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, starring Kirsten Dunst, is scheduled to be out on DVD next week.)
