Movie magic and musings

Well, I still haven’t watched The Departed. But I did watch Little Miss Sunshine for the second time. And I watched The Prestige.
I liked that one quite a bit though I plan on watching it again soon and see how a second impression strikes me. My initial take is that in the focus on the details and the setting up of everything - the puzzle, trick or whatever you want to call it - that some attention to the characters may have been lost. The emotional connection you need to make this all work was missing, to some extent, for me. If the film was a person he or she would be clever but distant. Someone a bit reticent.
Not sure that explains it. And I’m not sure that is really what I feel hesitant about regarding The Prestige.
But I watched it. And now, along with The Departed on my to watch list I have added Babel. Why is it I’m so unenthused about these two films? I don’t know. But last night, when I could have watched either, I watched instead 1938’s The Adventures of Robin Hood. I watched it so many times now I’ve lost count.

I watched The Prestige again tonight. I liked it better the second time! Go figure.
My wife and I saw The Departed IN THEATRE (hey, it’s a big deal for parents of two-under-three) and quite liked it. Then again, the ability to focus on one thing for two hours uninterrupted might have added to our enjoyment. Hope you like; if nothing else, you can brush up on your Bahhh-ston accent.
