DVD cover for Funny Face (50th Anniversary Edition)For whatever it’s worth (I don’t normally make this kind of a post), here are some classic movies that are being released on DVD in the next few weeks or so. Many of these have been previously released. In a number of the cases, however, the new edition is better in the sense that there may be more features included or, more often, the transfer is improved. Anyway, here they are:

  • Funny Face (50th Anniversary Edition) (1957) Paramount Home Video
  • Barbara Stanwyck Signature Collection - Warner Home Video
  • Burt Lancaster Signature Collection - Warner Home Video
  • Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (40th Anniversary Edition) (1967) Sony Pictures
  • Stanley Kramer Film Collection (Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner / Ship of Fools / The Member of the Wedding / The Wild One / The 5,000 Fingers of Dr. T)
  • The Jazz Singer (Three-Disc Deluxe Edition) (1927) Warner Home Video
  • MGM Holiday Classics Collection (The Bishop’s Wife / March of the Wooden Soldiers / Pocketful of Miracles)
  • Warner Directors Series - Stanley Kubrick (2001 - A Space Odyssey/ A Clockwork Orange/ The Shining/ Eyes Wide Shut/ Full Metal Jacket/ A Life in Pictures - Documentary)
  • Breathless - Criterion Collection (1960)
  • The Lady Vanishes - Criterion Collection (1938)

None of these is a knockout for me, but I am interested in a few of them (for example, Funny Face). And in one instance, The Lady Vanishes, I have the earlier version and don’t feel compelled to replace it.

A couple of the collections sound interesting. As for the dates, these are coming out through the end of September on through October.
