Ghost World (2001)

Directed by Terry Zwigoff

This is an odd film, this Ghost World. It’s absolutely wonderful until you get to the end. Then you just kind of scratch your head and wonder, “Where the hell did that come from?”

You’ll find, however, that I seem to be alone in this. It appears most reviews like the film (94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and have no problems with the ending. (If they do, they ain’t saying.)

To be honest, I need to see this one again. Maybe I looked away at a crucial point and missed something. But how they got to the ending they arrived at baffles me at this point. (Example: At the end of the movie, where did Steve Buscemi’s mother come from? What was that about?)

Apart from Mr. Buscemi, you’ll find both Scarlett Johansson and Thora Birch starring in the movie, a very early film for both actors and one the both are exceptional in.

So … the review is simply this: great movie; unsatisfying ending.
